Liberal groups will descend on Washington next week to brainstorm ways to make climate change a key part of the 2016 presidential election.
The meetings will be organized by the group Democracy Alliance, where Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Gina McCarthy will address liberal donors, along with the environmentalist billionaire Tom Steyer and others from a number of prominent activist groups.
Democracy Alliance wants its members to increase their donations to fund campaigns to make climate change a central theme in the 2016 elections, according to an agenda that Politico obtained. Steyer will address the group Thursday at a meeting at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.
Democracy Alliance has four top priorities it wants to accomplish by 2020: "diminish the influence of the fossil fuel industry in elections; position Congress to pass a national carbon price; encourage states to adopt climate and renewable energy policies; and improve the United States' global leadership on climate change."
The group also will lay out a strategy on how to wage campaigns in key swing vote states such as Pennsylvania and Virginia.Read more on WashingtonExaminer.com
