Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has a suggestion for 2016 Republican presidential candidates grappling with the debate format: Let liberals question the GOP candidates only if Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity get to do the Democratic debates.

Gingrich told the Washington Examiner that when he sought the GOP presidential nomination in 2012, some of his best crowd reactions were when he challenged the moderators and refused to attack his fellow Republicans.

"The press has become more aggressive in many, many ways and frankly more liberal than it was forty or fifty years years ago, and all of that means if you're a conservative, to get your message out, you're fighting uphill," Gingrich said.

"Imagine a debate where Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh interviewed Hillary Clinton," he continued. "Do you think Hillary Clinton would ever agree to show up for that? She would say, 'Are you guys crazy? I'm not showing up for that.'"
