Venezuela will sue the United States.
That threat came from Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, who during a televised speech Thursday said he is hitting back at President Obama for slapping sanctions on Venezuelan officials back in March.
Maduro called the sanctions an "international illegality," reports the El Tiempo, a newspaper in Colombia.
Obama's March 9 executive order declared the situation in Venezuela an "extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy" of the United States. It did not target the Venezuelan government, but did affect Venezuelan officials who the White House said violated the human rights of the South American country's own citizens.
