Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas thanked Secretary of State John Kerry for meeting him in Amman, Jordan Saturday, but also used the occasion to inveigh against Israel.

"We welcome Mr. Kerry's efforts, however, a bandage and painkillers will not treat the illness. What will is ending the occupation, colonization, settler violence and the adverse policies by the most extreme Israeli government," Husam Zumlot, a senior aide to Abbas, said.

Kerry met with Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu Thursday in Berlin, where Netanyahu expressed similar disapproval of the Palestinians.

At issue in Abbas' meeting with Kerry was the status of holy cites in the Israel and Palestinian territories, the Wall Street Journal reports. Fresh disputes have broken out in the conflict over the past month, with bloodshed on both sides.
