Scarborough: Bush should admit he's a boring 'dork'

MSNBC "Morning Joe" host Joe Scarborough, a former Republican congressman, said Thursday that GOP presidential candidate Jeb Bush's campaign would benefit if Bush would simply admit that he's not a cool person.

After airing a clip of Bush saying Wednesday that the heroine of a new superhero TV show looked "pretty hot," Scarborough said the former Florida governor wasn't doing his floundering candidacy any favors with those kinds of comments.

"Jeb Bush has to go full-on serious," Scarborough said. "He's got to be himself. He's got to start each speech by saying, 'You know what, I'm a dork. I'll admit it. You may not want me to hang out with you over the weekend if you and your friends are drinking beer and watching TV because I'm going to slip off to my laptop and I'm going to be trying and figure out how to clean the mess up and it's who I am. I'm a dork. I'm boring. I am not exciting."

Bush was once widely perceived to be the one to beat for the GOP nomination. But after Donald Trump entered the race in June, targeting Bush with a series of insults about his energy level and provoking him to defend the unpopular legacy of his brother, President George W. Bush, Jeb Bush's poll numbers have fallen dramatically nationally and in early primary states.

Scarborough, who represented Florida for a portion of the time that Bush was governor, said Bush should admit that he's "a quiet man" who "hear[s] the quiet people when they speak."
