Gowdy scolds Benghazi Dems for focus on 'money,' not 'heroism'

Rep. Trey Gowdy tore into Democrats on the House Select Committee on Benghazi for complaining about the $5 million price tag Thursday.

Gowdy praised Hillary Clinton for testifying about the heroism of the four killed in the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi. But he also ripped Democratic members for discussing the money spent on the investigation instead of the $500 million the U.S. has reportedly spent to train "four or five" Syrians to battle ISIS.

"Madam Secretary, I appreciate you going through their heroism, I really do. It's moving to hear from it," Gowdy told Clinton. "And, frankly, it infuriates me to hear folks to my left who don't raise a single whisper about $50 [sic] million to train five ISIS fighters. But God forbid we spend 1/10th of that to give some answers to the family members sitting on the first row."

"So I appreciate you discussing their heroism, while some of my colleagues discuss money," Gowdy railed before yielding to Rep. Mike Pompeo, R-Kan.

Gowdy, who serves as the committee's chairman, made the remarks during the fifth hour of testimony by Clinton to members investigating the Benghazi terror attack.
