After landing in the hospital nearly two weeks ago with a fractured bone in his neck, former President George H.W. Bush shared an enthusiastic glimpse of his recovery Thursday on his Twitter account.

The elder Bush tweeted a photo of himself wearing a neck brace giving two thumbs up with the caption, “Who knew jumping out of planes was safer than getting out of bed? Thanks to all for your kind get-well messages.”

Bush, 91, fell at his home in Kennebunkport, Maine on July 15 and fractured his C2 vertebra. Doctors said he suffered no neurological impairment from the incident, and the injury will be allowed to heal on its own, which is expected to take three to four months.

The family patriarch celebrated his 90th birthday in 2014 by making a tandem parachute jump near his Kennebunkport home, where he also celebrated a low-key 91st birthday with his family.

Bush, who has a form of Parkinson's disease and uses a motorized scooter or a wheelchair for mobility, has suffered other recent health setbacks. He was hospitalized in Houston in December for about a week for shortness of breath, and spent Christmas 2012 in intensive care at the same Houston hospital for a bronchitis-related cough and other issues.
