New York City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito was none too pleased when the Guardian Angels founder and local TV personality, Curtis Sliwa, said he was her “papi” during a recent TV appearance.
During his weekly appearance on NY1's “Inside City Hall” with Errol Louis, Sliwa ripped into the city council’s proposal to decriminalize minor offenses, including public urination.
“Now Melissa, you know I’m your papi,” Sliwa started his comment. “You know when I’m sitting on the stoop, and I’m having some of my old B" – meaning beer – "I don’t need to get a wooden shampoo or a concrete facial simply because the 5-0 says it’s an arrest-able offense.”
During the same segment, commentator Gerson Borrero encouraged New Yorkers to relieve themselves on the doorsteps of council members if the proposal passed.
Mark-Viverito took to Twitter Wednesday night and called out Sliwa’s for his comment.
“Thanks for the sexism layered on top of your payasadas (clowning)… but no one is my ‘papi’,” she tweeted.
