The widow of a police officer killed while escorting President Obama's motorcade has filed a lawsuit in the death.

Jupiter Police Officer Bruce St. Laurent died during a 2012 visit by Obama to Florida. His wife, Brenda St. Laurent, is suing the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, which she claims bears responsibility for his death.

St. Laurent died after his motorcycle was struck by a pickup truck while he prepared to shut down a stretch of Interstate 95 in West Palm Beach ahead of the motorcade.

His wife says the sheriff's office "negligently allowed" the driver of the truck to enter the highway.

The sheriff's office had no immediate comment. The lawsuit filed last week seeks unspecified damages.
