George Will: Conflict in Syria serving as a 'training ground’ for jihadists

George Will said Tuesday on "Special Report with Bret Baier" that the conflict in Syria is working to the jihadists' advantage.

George Will said  Tuesday on “Special Report with Bret Baier” that a report in The Daily Beast that claimed foreign jihadists, including Americans, are flocking to Syria to fight for their cause proves the conflict is working to terrorists' advantage.

“Syria is a training ground,” Will said. “It’s sort of their Camp Lejeune or Quantico to train officers or fighters, and it clearly works.”

Will, a syndicated columnist and Fox News contributor, said the report makes him wonder whether the Obama administration should reexamine its policy that Syrian president Bashar al-Assad must go.

“It gives you some clarity about the kind of people that are going to win if Assad loses,” he said. “Although it sounds callous to say so, it could be in our interests to let this simmer along as long as possible so some of the people who went there to fight die fighting.”
