The Michigan Department of Corrections says a petition collector hired by U.S. Rep. John Conyers' campaign is wanted by police.

Corrections department spokesman Russ Marlan tells The Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press that Daniel Pennington did not complete his probation sentence in a home invasion case out of Battle Creek.

In addition, the 23-year-old Pennington has an outstanding warrant for an assault charge in Lansing.

Conyers' campaign hired Pennington to help try to get the veteran Detroit Democrat on the ballot.

Conyers is at risk of not appearing on the August primary ballot because election officials believe two people do not appear to have been registered voters when they circulated petitions for the 84-year-old congressman.

A message was left with the Conyers campaign before business hours Friday.
