Missouri mayor resigns after comments about Jews, recent shooting

Mayor Dan Clevenger resigned Tuesday after he enraged his constituents by claiming in a televised interview last week that he “kind of agreed with” the views of Frazier Glenn Cross (Miller), the former Klansman who murdered three people outside two Jewish facilities last week.

Clevenger, who became mayor of Marionville earlier this month, told KSPR television in Springfield that he had known Cross, who lived nearby, for years.

“I kind of agreed with him on some things, but I don’t like to express that too much,” Clevenger said in the interview. “There’s some things going on in this country that are destroying us. We’ve got a false economy and some of those corporations are run by Jews. The names are there.”

In October 2004, the now former mayor sent a letter to the editor of a local newspaper, calling Miller a friend and wanting to spread his warnings.

In his letter he wrote about the “Jew-run medical industry,” claiming “it made a few Jews rich by killing us off.” He also evokes classic anti-Semitism with accusations about the “Jew-run government.”
