Politicians, operatives, White House officials, members of Congress—along with some snark artists—are debating, attacking, defending and kibitzing around the clock on Twitter. It’s a nonstop forum that is helping shape the political conversation. In this daily feature, @laurenashburn picks some of the best – and worst – political tweets you may have missed.
KISS lead guitarist Tommy Thayer is breathing fire – this time it’s on Twitter. Seems Thayer, who joined the band in ’03, got some bad news in the mail about his health care plan that could make it a bit harder for him to rock-n-roll all night…and party every day.
"If you like your healthcare plan you can keep it, period." Not true. I just got notice mine's cancelled 12/31. #ObamaCareFail
Fans wrote to him about their experiences, including one who said: “When @tommy_thayer needs to scramble and figure out his family's health care, what hope is there for the rest of us!? Ughh!”
En garde! On This Week With George Stephanopoulos Sunday morning, Rand Paul lashed out about charges – including one from MSNBC host Rachel Maddow – that he plagiarized Wikipedia in two speeches. He fumed he was “being unfairly targeted by a bunch of hacks and haters.” And then he hopped in a time machine. “If dueling were legal in Kentucky, if they keep it up, it’d be duel challenge.”
Former White House assistant press secretary, Tommy Vietor, who also worked as NSC spox, tips his hat to the ABC host:
Liberal Fox commentator Kirsten Powers shocked the heck out of me by posting this tweet linking to a piece she authored in Christianity Today. People link to their work all the time. But about leaving atheism in the dust and finding Jesus?
We’ve sat in the makeup room together, and have appeared side by side on air. I never knew about her conversion. That’s not what’s shocking. Anyone who can sit down at a keyboard and find the words to reveal a deeply personal issue -- and can write it with such humor and honesty – earns my respect. And, I hope, yours.
Much has changed at the Jersey Shore since Hurricane Sandy hit. But one thing stays the same: Chris Christie in a fleece. It was so ubiquitous that Christie’s wife joked for weeks after the storm that he came home smelling like wet fleece. He bragged on SNL about wearing his fleece under his suit.
Now just hours before Election Day, Wall Street Journal reporter, Heather Haddon, who covered the storm, can’t believe it’s baaaack.
Let’s hope he doesn’t don it for his trip to the polls. But if he does, shouldn’t it be red?
When picking top political tweets, there’s no shortage of material. Just imagine Twitter without politics. It would be 24/7 Kardashians and Miley Cyrus twerking videos.
Our outside-the-Beltway Twitter truism comes from high school teacher Craig Altheide, a self-confessed political junkie from Hannibal, Mo.; he's tweeting at Democratic strategist and Fox News contributor Joe Trippi.
Waaay lower than $17-$20 a share.
