Sen. Marco Rubio is not shrinking from his much ballyhooed sip of water in the middle of delivering the prime-time Republican response to President Obama’s State of the Union address.
On the heels of his somewhat theatrical move to quench his thirst – he reached over, way over, for a bottle of Poland Spring in the middle of one of the most high-profile moments of his career – Rubio’s political action committee is selling the “Marco Rubio Water Bottle.”
The bottle is emblazed with “Rubio” in large red letters and includes the website reclaimamericapac.com.
The Reclaim America PAC has raised more than $100,000 from the sales, which began Wednesday, the day after the famous slurp, according to the Web site BuzzFeed.
The PAC Web site offers the water bottle to anyone who contributes $25 or more. About 4,000 water bottles have been sold through the PAC, according to Politico.com.
"Send the liberal detractors a message that not only does Marco Rubio inspire you… he hydrates you," the PAC page said.
The water break attracted widespread attention on Twitter and on late-night television. Rubio himself tweeted a picture of Poland Spring after his speech, and joked about the sip in television interviews later in the week.
It is unclear what input, if any, Rubio, of Florida, had in capitalizing on the viral moment through the water bottle sales.
Rubio was reportedly on a short list of potential running mates for GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney in 2012. He was one of the more visible surrogates for Romney's campaign, and now talk is swirling about Rubio as a possible contender for the 2016 presidential race.
