CHARLESTON, S.C. – No joke: Comedian Stephen Colbert's sister is running for a vacant South Carolina congressional seat.
The campaign manager said Elizabeth Colbert-Busch said Friday that she plans to file as a Democrat next week and make a formal announcement. Colbert-Busch did not immediately return messages from the Associated Press.
Colbert-Busch will file as a Democrat seeking the vacant 1st District seat. She is a Charleston native like her brother and development director at the Clemson University Restoration Institute, in nearby North Charleston.
One other Democrat and at least 10 Republicans are seeking the seat along South Carolina's south coast.
GOP candidates include former Gov. Mark Sanford who is returning to politics four years after an affair with an Argentine woman was exposed
