Senator, Wife Push to Finish Flight 93 Memorial

It has been more than 11 years since two hijacked planes crashed into the World Trade Center and a third crashed into a field in Shanksville, Pa.

But the memorial to remember those who died in that Pennsylvania field still has not been finished. Now, Kris Toomey, the wife of Pennsylvania Sen. Pat Toomey, has made it her mission to help get things completed.

"I was surprised to learn at the 10th anniversary of 9/11 to learn that the funding hadn't been completed," Mrs. Toomey told "America's News HQ" Saturday.

She says they are about $5 million short of what is needed to complete things like the Learning Center. And she believes it is important to raise that money because many of the students that visit the memorial are too young to remember what happened that day.

Mrs. Toomey insists this isn't just a project for Pennsylvanians. She calls it a "national issue" because the plane originated in New Jersey, was headed for California and had on Americans from all over the country on board.

Standing by her side, her husband added, "The people that this memorial commemorates were the people that were the first Americans to respond in this war in an incredibly courageous fashion without having signed up for this and without knowing what was coming, they responded and may have saved who knows how many lives here in Washington."
