Sen. Rubio's daughter in car accident

SEFFNER, Fla. -- Florida Sen. Marco Rubio's is en route back to Miami after his 12-year-old daughter was in a car accident Saturday, according to a statement by his office.

"Amanda Rubio, the oldest daughter of Senator Marco Rubio was injured in an accident this afternoon. While visiting with classmates, she was a passenger on a golf cart involved in a collision in a private gated community," the statement said.

"She was airlifted to Miami Children's Hospital with a head injury. She has been admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. She is in fair condition."

"Senator and Mrs. Rubio are grateful for all the outpouring of support and prayers," the statment continued.

"The Rubio's are touched and grateful for calls from President Obama and Vice President Biden, and Governor Romney's personal message earlier today," a Rubio spokesman said.

The Senator was alerted to the accident after leaving a campaign rally in Kissimmee with Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney.

At 6:44 p.m. the Romney motorcade pulled over to the side of I-4. Rubio was seen talking on a cell phone outside the campaign bus for several minutes, before shaking hands with a few people and driving away in a Florida State Trooper's vehicle.

Rubio appeared at two events for Romney today and was scheduled to appear at a third tonight in Land O' Lakes, near Tampa.
