SUN CITY CENTER, Fla. - Vice President Joe Biden is now taking a page out of the Rick Santorum playbook, accusing Mitt Romney of conveniently dis-owning positions and mocking him in the very same fashion Santorum did during the GOP primary.
"Ladies and gentlemen the president said the day after the debate that Romney's plans have become awfully sketchy," Biden said during a rally Friday in the battleground state of Florida.
"I'm reluctant to correct the president on anything. But I would respectfully suggest they're not sketchy, they're etch-a-sketchy," he continued. "Man I tell you they're shakin' that sucker... and they're dialing in a new sketch."
The now infamous Etch-a-Sketch gaffe comes courtesy of Senior Romney Advisor Eric Fehrnstrom, who said back in March that his boss would shake off the tough primary and "hit the reset button" for the general election.
"It's almost like an Etch-a-Sketch," Fehrnstrom said. You can kind of shake it up and restart all over again."
At the time, Romney's opponents pounced. Santorum took to bringing an Etch-a-Sketch on stage with him during rallies. His aides handed out the children's toy at Romney events.
Romney officials say these lines of attacks, coming in the final stretch of the campaign, just prove President Obama is now in trouble and focused on resorting to "gimmicks" instead of issues important to the American people.
