In its effort to reduce paper output, the U.S. Government Printing Office has developed a mobile Web application for people to review the 2013 proposed federal budget, and the agency says it received 53,000 hits its first day out.

The budget app is the second that the GPO has developed, the first being a guide to members of Congress, which was released in November, and which hasn't received as many hits in three months as the budget app did in a day.

"Apps are the next step in the evolution of accessing information and GPO is here to provide that avenue to the public," said Acting Public Printer Davita Vance-Cooks in a press release.

The app provides users with access to text and images as well as the president's message on the budget, his priorities, overviews from each agency and links to summary and historical tables.

The app is free for most mobile device platforms. The entire budget with attachments in written form costs $245.
