In the world of politics, it's a roast of epic proportions.
Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich both scheduled a 10:45 a.m. appearance at Tommy's Ham House Saturday in Greenville, and neither side is blinking.
"It is a pure coincidence and we are not changing our schedule," a Romney aide said.
Meanwhile, the Gingrich camp insists they scheduled the primary day event first.
"Gingrich has had this campaign stop on the books. We have committed, we don't know what Governor Romney's campaign wants to do but we're more than happy to have him join us at our event for some ham, on us."
On the stump, Gingrich has challenged Romney to a 3-hour Lincoln Douglas Style debate, but Friday night, the candidate looked surprised when journalists informed him that Romney had blocked off the same time window to drop by the restaurant.
"I had no idea," Gingrich said, as he processed the news. "That's going to be wild."
"But you mentioned this week that you'd love to debate him sometime on Friday, somewhere," a reporter responded.
"But tomorrow's Saturday," he replied. "Today would have been more planned," he said.
"I can't wait until I find R.C., he'll be frantic," Gingrich continued, referring to his spokesman.
"So you guys have lots to cover tomorrow. See you at Tommy's Ham House!" he said.
