Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels will deliver the Republican response to President Obama's State of the Union address on Tuesday.

House Speaker John Boehner and Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell made the announcement in a statement Thursday. They say Daniels has a solid record of effective governing and fiscal responsibility.

Daniels is in his eighth year as governor of Indiana. He was talked about as a candidate for president until he decided against a White House run.

Daniels will speak after Obama's address.
