A longtime California Republican House member has announced his retirement -- the second time such announcement in four days.
Rep. Wally Herger, 66, will step aside at the end of this term. He has served in the House since 1987.
Last week, Rep. Elton Gallegly announced his retirement after redrawn district maps pitted him against fellow Republican House Armed Services Committee Chairman Buck McKeon.
Herger faced no such Republican-on-Republican battle as he was not matched with a fellow Republican for a primary battle, and his new district is a safe one for the GOP.
In recent weeks, Reps. Geoff Davis, R-Ky., and Steve Austria, R-Ohio, have announced they were stepping down.
Ten House Republicans have either announced their retirements or intention to seek other office this cycle.
