NEW YORK – After a year filled with ridicule and scandal, disgraced former congressman Anthony Weiner finally has something he can feel proud about -- a baby boy.
Weiner's wife, Huma Abedin, gave birth to the tiny Democrat on Wednesday, 10 days before the New Year's Eve due date.
Jordan Zane Weiner checked in at just over seven pounds (3.18 kilograms), a source said.
Weiner emailed friends announcing the arrival of their "sparkling wonder."
"Did I mention his mom is amazing? We love you for welcoming him," Weiner wrote.
The New York Post first reported in September the couple was having a boy, months after Weiner's political career crashed and burned in an embarrassing "sexting" scandal that forced him to resign from Congress
Little Jordan had a good shot at growing up in Gracie Mansion, the New York mayor's official residence, until his dad on May 27 tweeted a lewd crotch shot of himself to a 21-year-old Twitter follower.
The 47-year-old later admitted to several inappropriate online relationships with women before giving up his seat in Congress -- and his dream of being New York's next mayor.
Weiner denied having physical contact with any of the women. The scandal broke before the couple's first wedding anniversary.
