Gingrich Backer Denies $20 Million Donation Report

SIOUX CITY, IOWA -- A spokesman for billionaire Newt Gingrich supporter Sheldon Adelson has denied a report that the casino and hotel magnate is planning on donating $20 million to a pro-Gingrich super PAC.

Ron Reese, a spokesman for Sheldon Adelson, tells FOX News that a story by Politico, which cites multiple sources, is flatly "not accurate."

"I don't know what sources they are talking to (but) I talked to my chairman...and this story is not accurate," Reese, head of Media Relations for Adelson's Las Vegas Sands Corp., said in a brief telephone interview from Nevada.

"There is no truth to any speculation that Mr. Adelson has made a commitment to either contribute or raise this amount of money," Reese continued.

However, Reese declined to comment on whether Adelson planned to direct funds of a lesser amount in the future.

One Gingrich insider said that there has been an increase in pressure on wealthy supporters of Gingrich to give to outside super PACs in an effort to combat the week of attack ads that the former Speaker of the House has received from primary rivals Mitt Romney and Ron Paul.
