Capitol Hill Happenings: Today in Congress

Members return from their home districts for one more week of legislating before the weeklong recess. Before leaving town, the House and Senate will work to pass yet another temporary spending bill to keep the government open past March 18, when the current measure expires.

House Republicans will put such a proposal on the floor Tuesday. The three-week operating plan will cut $6 billion from current funding levels.

The desire to continue funding the government a few weeks at a time has dropped to an all time low, and some lawmakers on both sides of the aisle say that they will not vote for anything less than a bill that puts the 2011 budget issue to bed for good.
