Bachmann to Address Iowa Crowd, Stirring 2012 Speculation

Rep. Michele Bachmann, venturing into a key presidential caucus state, plans to tell an Iowa crowd Friday night that "the promise of America is under threat" and it's "not too late to change course," according to remarks obtained in advance by local media.

The Republican Minnesota congresswoman's plans to give a talk in Iowa have stirred early speculation that the Tea Party favorite might be considering a presidential run. Her chief of staff was quoted earlier this month saying "nothing's off the table" for Bachmann.

Bachmann is originally from Iowa, though she now lives in and represents Minnesota. But her prepared remarks make the trip seem like more than just a casual hometown visit.

"It is not too late to change course and save this great nation. I believe we can save America. I believe we can preserve this exceptional nation -- this land of promise -- for our children and grandchildren," she plans to say, according to the remarks obtained and published by Minnesota's StarTribune newspaper.

Bachmann will speak at a fundraiser for Iowans for Tax Relief in Des Moines. She also plans to meet with GOP officials in Iowa.
