LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Republican U.S. Senate candidate Rand Paul says he may opt out of a debate next week with Democrat Jack Conway because he is angry about an attack ad.
Paul said at a press conference in Lexington Monday that he will make a final decision soon on whether to appear with Conway on Kentucky Educational Television on Oct. 25.
He accused Conway during a nationally televised debate Sunday night of gutter politics for running a TV ad that questioned Paul's affiliation during his college years with a group that mocked Christianity.
Paul denounced the commercial as false and called himself a "pro-life Christian." Conway offered no apology and even repeated the accusations.
Paul and Conway are running for the seat of retiring Sen. Jim Bunning, who served two terms.
