It's not just a Republican primary election race in Alaska, it's the "Continental Army versus the British." That's what former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee said Wednesday morning on "Fox & Friends" when he weighed in on the still-undetermined, and surprisingly tight, Senate race.
Joe Miller, a Tea Party favorite who was endorsed by Huckabee and the state's former governor and Republican Vice Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin, is currently leading in the vote count. On Fox, Huckabee was careful not to label Miller a Tea Party member - and instead described the GOP candidate as someone the Tea Party can embrace because he is "fiscally conservative and socially conservative."
Huckabee compared Miller to the American Continental Army -- established in 1775 to help coordinate the Thirteen Colonies in their quest for independence -- and incumbent Senator Lisa Murkowski to the British Army because of her campaign money and political background.
Although Huckabee endorsed Miller himself, he told "Fox & Friends" that "it will be a colossal upset if the numbers hold true and he ends up winning this thing." After all, Huckabee added, Miller's campaign is like a "renegade rag tag army."
As of Wednesday morning, Miller leads with 51 percent to 49, with only a few thousand votes separating them, and there are still thousands of absentee ballots waiting to be counted. Anxious Alaskans will have to wait at least a week for the final result to see if the Redcoats or those seeking independence will come out on top. The winner will face Sitka Mayor, Democrat Scott McAdams, who has less than $5,000 in the bank.
