The late Ted Stevens of Alaska, the longest serving Republican senator who was killed Monday night in a plane crash outside Dillingham, AK, will be remembered in a ceremony next Wednesday in Anchorage at the Anchorage Baptist Temple.
A notice was sent to senators, who are currently out for a month-long summer recess, informing them of the time, 6pm ET.
In a brief session Thursday to wrap up action on a $600 million border security bill, the members approved a resolution expressing "profound sorrow and deep regret" over the senator's passing and honored his WWII service, as well as his significant contribution to Alaska's statehood. A senior GOP leadership aide told Fox that tribute speeches to the iconic senator are expected when the senators return in mid-September.
Stevens served for four decades in the Senate.
