New Florida Republican Chairman: Days of Excess Are Over

The new chairman of the state Republican Party is vowing not to fly in private planes, not to travel out of state unless absolutely necessary and to take his car when he can.

Sen. John Thrasher, who took over for disgraced chairman Jim Greer, met with the party's executive board Friday to discuss the lavish spending over the past three years at the party.

During a break, he said those days are over.

Greer, Gov. Charlie Crist's hand-picked chairman, resigned in February after months of complaints about his expensive travel and entertainment. The party is reviewing his expenses and those of others who had party credit cards.

Thrasher said he will use his personal credit card and seek reimbursement for party expenses.
