Democrats attempt a one two punch on Wall Street reform legislation. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and the rest of his leadership team will hold a press conference on the regulatory overhaul measure at 12:15p, shortly after President Barack Obama finishes his remarks on the same topic in New York City.
At some point Thursday, Reid intends to file cloture to start debate on the reform package. This sets up a cloture vote to end debate and move to final passage next week.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) holds her weekly news conference at 11:00a, but in honor of “Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day,” there will be adorable children in the audience! They will ask adorable questions!
House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) also holds his weekly press availability, but will be joined by other members of his caucus at 11:45a. Boehner and Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) plan to introduce a one-year total ban on earmarks, and use the savings from that maneuver to reduce the deficit. Will House Democrats buy in or will they still want to get some cash out to their districts?
Anwar al Awlaki, the man Director of National Intelligence has called “the future face of terrorism,” is the subject of a 1:00p news conference on the House side. Rep. Charlie Dent (R-PA) will introduce legislation to try to strip Awlaki, a dual United States and Yemeni citizen, of his American citizenship. This will make Awlaki an easier target for covert operations, and Dent claims that the radical cleric has already “voluntarily renounced his citizenship by recruiting terrorists to engage in violent acts of terrorism against the United States.”
As we rapidly approach the weekend, negotiations on a number of fronts could come to a conclusion or blow up, so stay tuned to Fox News for the latest…
