MANCHESTER, N.H. -- Gen. David Petreaus says his appearance at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics has nothing to do with politics or New Hampshire, which hosts the first-in-the-nation presidential primaries.

Petreaus has been talked about as a potential 2012 candidate but insists he has no interest in running. He told reporters Wednesday that he will never run for political office.

The chief of U.S. Central Command has been speaking at college campuses around the country and says he wasn't aware that Saint Anselm College, where he was to speak Wednesday night, has been the site of numerous presidential debates.

Petreaus overseas U.S. military operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and a wide swath of the Middle East.
