The House of Representatives has finished its work on the reconciliation health care package, and now it’s the Senate’s turn. But first a Congressional delegation will head to the White House at 10:30a to watch President Barack Obama sign the massive health care overhaul bill into law at 11:15a. After that happens, the Senate starts 20 hours of reconciliation debate. Please see Fox News Senior Capitol Hill Producer Trish Turner’s excellent explainer article on this topic, “Reconciliation – Your Guide to the Game” to find out more about the process.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) will each lay out their battle plans for the week’s floor war over the health care reconciliation bill after their 12:30p policy lunches. McConnell may keep his cards close to the vest though, as Republicans feel the element of surprise is critical in the days ahead.
In non-health care news, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan have been invited to testify at 10:00a before the House Financial Services Committee on reforms to the way the government operates in the housing finance industry. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, two financing programs that have received billions in taxpayer assistance, are likely to be topics of heated conversation.
Members are going to set a furious pace this week to finish up so they can head home for their Easter/Passover recess. Be sure to stay with Fox News for the latest breaking news…
