Some interesting reaction from a couple of lawmakers after the President’s speech:
Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) on the president blasting GOPers in the Senate: “They (Republicans) have to share in the responsibility in governing.”
Sen. Ben Nelson (D-NE) on the president’s criticism of the Senate: “I think (the President) and his colleagues were having fun jabbing the Senate.”
Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) on whether the criticism of the Senate was warranted: “He five times chided the Senate for not doing its job. The Senate being the cooling saucer has been like a meat locker.”
- Note this is a take on the famous conversation between George Washington and Thomas Jefferson about the essence of the Senate. The two discussed how the Senate is the saucer into which one pours the House’s hot coffee so it can cool.
Weiner on the president insisting the Congress approve health care reform: “That’s the equivalent of the EMT with those paddles. We’re going to recessitate health care.”
Weiner on Justice Samuel Alito shaking his head when the president criticized the High Court’s controversial decision in the campaign finance case. Alito even mouthed the words “that’s not true.”: “Look, these are human beings, not China dolls. If you make a boneheaded decision, someone is going to call you out on it."
