Capitol Hill Calendar: Jan 27, 2010

The biggest news of the day happens last, as President Barack Obama comes to the Capitol to deliver his first State of the Union address at 9PM EST.

Before the President speaks, Senate Republican leadership will have a prebuttal press conference to the State of the Union.

Earlier in the day, the House Republican Conference holds a closed-door meeting. Following their meeting, the leadership will speak at a press conference. We expect that they too will comment on this evening’s special speaker.

The House Homeland Security Committee continues its investigation into the attempted bombing of Northwest Airlines Flight 253 on Christmas day. Michael Leiter, the director of the National Counterterrorism Center, is the day’s star witness.

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and TARP special inspector general Neil Barofsky will testify before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.   The committee will be investigating the insurance giant AIG and its payments to credit default swap counterparties.

CBO Director Douglas Elmendorf talks to the House Budget committee about his agency’s budget and economic outlook.  The markets will be watching.

More events will arise during the day so be sure to stay tuned to the Fox News Channel for the latest developments…
