Arkansas Democrat Opts Out of Congressional Race

U.S. Rep. Vic Snyder, a Democrat who has held the Arkansas 2nd District congressional seat since 1997, says he won't seek re-election.

Snyder announced Friday afternoon that he wants to spend more time with his wife and children rather than seek an eighth term.

Snyder was an Arkansas state senator when he was elected to the seat in 1996. He says that two weeks ago he hired a campaign manager, but changed his mind about running after talking with family and close friends.

Snyder and his wife have four young children, including a set of year-old triplets.
