Karl Rove, a former top adviser to President George W. Bush, was granted a divorce in Texas last week after 24 years of marriage, Politico reported Thursday.

Rove and his wife Darby were married in January 1986. They have one son.

Family spokesperson Dana Perino said Rove and his wife "came to the decision mutually and amicably."

A Rove family friend told Politico the couple spent Christmas together with their son and remain friends.

Rove's 600-plus page memoir, "Courage and Consequence: My Life as a Conservative in the Fight," is due to be released in March.
