North Korea Acknowledges Receipt of Obama Letter

Published December 18, 2009

SEOUL, South Korea -- North Korea is confirming that its leader Kim Jong Il has received a personal letter from President Obama, though it's not divulging its contents.

The official Korean Central News Agency says the letter was presented by U.S. special envoy Stephen Bosworth to the first vice foreign minister during his visit last week.

The State Department says Bosworth took Obama's letter to Pyongyang in an attempt to bring North Korea back to six-nation talks aimed at its nuclear disarmament. The U.S. has also yet to announce the letter's contents.
