MONTPELIER, Vt. -- Sources tell The Associated Press that Gov. Jim Douglas won't seek re-election.
A Republican lawmaker said Thursday a top Douglas administration official confirmed to him that the four-term Republican won't run for another two-year term in 2010.
A second source, who works in Vermont's congressional delegation, said he was told the same by an administration adviser. Douglas administration officials aren't commenting.
They have called an 11 a.m. news conference. Douglas, 58, has bucked Vermont's political tide for years, fashioning a 13-1 record in statewide elections despite being a Republican in a left-leaning state.
