A judge has scheduled a start date of June 3, 2010, for former Gov. Rod Blagojevich's federal corruption trial.

CHICAGO -- A judge has scheduled a start date of June 3, 2010, for former Gov. Rod Blagojevich's federal corruption trial.

Blagojevich was not in the courtroom Thursday when U.S. District Judge James Zagel set the date.

Zagel scheduled the trial at prosecutors' request. He'd previously said it could begin in a window that ran from April 1 to July 1.

Also Thursday, Zagel met with a group of contract lawyers who will help Blagojevich's defense sort through three million pages of documents in the case. The attorneys each told the judge they'd read a protective order swearing them to secrecy.

A general status hearing is scheduled in the case for July 22.
