D.C. Chancellor Fires About 250 Teachers for Poor Performance
Union officials say the fired employees include both tenured and novice teachers and were dismissed for poor performance or failure to obtain a license.
About 250 D.C. teachers have lost their jobs this week, as Chancellor Michelle Rhee followed through on promises to dismiss instructors deemed ineffective.
Union officials say the fired employees include both tenured and novice teachers and were dismissed for poor performance or failure to obtain a license.
Teachers began receiving termination letters Tuesday, the day after the school year ended.
In the past, the school system has fired only a handful of instructors each year for poor performance.
