ACLU Sues CIA to Show White House Interrogation Link

NEW YORK -- The American Civil Liberties Union has sued the CIA and other government agencies to get documents it says may show links between the Bush administration and a program of harsh interrogation techniques.
The lawsuit was filed on Thursday in federal court in Manhattan. On Monday, CIA Director Leon Panetta said releasing documents about the agency's terror interrogations would gravely damage national security.
A criminal investigation is underway to learn more about the CIA's destruction of 92 videotapes of detainee interrogations that took place in 2002. Officials have said a dozen of those tapes show so-called "enhanced interrogation techniques," which critics call torture.
A government spokeswoman did not immediately return a call for comment.
