Justice Department auditors say 12 percent of the DEA's intelligence analysts last year did not have the security clearances needed to do their jobs.
The audit says the Drug Enforcement Administration's intelligence analysts produced useful and effective reports but were slow in sharing their work with other government agencies.
The concerns were raised Monday in a report by the Justice Department's inspector general.
The DEA collects intelligence and other information about drug smugglers and shares it with other spy and law enforcement agencies.
