The gay sailor was found shot multiple times on June 30 as he stood guard at Camp Pendleton north of San Diego. His family is calling his death a hate crime, however investigators are calling it a random act unrelated to the 29-year-old's sexuality.
  • July 10: The aircraft carrier USS John Stennis' crew members man the rails as it nears its Bremerton,Wash. homeport early Friday, just after sunrise. Waving flags are Daniel Ng and his brother Joshua Ng, from Puyallup, Wash. They were there to greet friend and Stennis sailor, Lt. Scott Allen. The ship with more than 3,000 sailors on board is completing a six-month deployment to the western Pacific.
