In 2006, Petra became so attached to the boat that she refused to leave its side. Officials at a zoo in Muenster finally parted bird and boat last week after Petra settled down with a real white swan. But the romance was short-lived.

European Union health officials backed off threats to impose a Europe-wide ban on mozzarella from Italy's Campania region on Friday, saying Rome has offered more guarantees to ensure dioxin-tainted cheese products do not end up on shop shelves.
  • March 28: A Palestinian demonstrator throws back a tear gas canister at Israeli soldiers, not seen, during a protest against Israel's separation barrier in the West Bank village of Bilin, near Ramallah. The demonstration on Friday also marked the 32nd ‘Land Day,’ which commemorates the killing of six Arab citizens of Israel by the Israeli army and police on March 30, 1976, during protests over Israeli confiscations of Arab land.
