Hurricane Frances

  • Live on the beach in Fort Lauderdale, before Frances arrives.
  • Lago Mar and the incredible Florida sky.
  • The storm approaches...
  • On the balcony of our suite at Lago Mar, with the owner's son-in-law Chip Snyder, and Fort Lauderdale Mayor Jim Naugle.
  • Friday night's dinner!
  • Our first look at damages, at the Doubletree hotel on PGA Blvd in Palm Beach County.
  • "Hero" Don Collopy poses in front of Paul Bulko's Cadillac. Don spotted the disabled car in the swampy woods and we woke Paul and got him out. The water was up to his waist when we woke him. Who knows how it might've turned out...
  • A flooded stretch of A1A in Port St. Lucie/Jensen Beach. Police closed the road but let us drive thru to show the damages and go live on Sunday afternoon...
  • A boat, smashed up on the rocks alongside the causeway leading to Port St. Lucie. The road was closed soon after we'd crossed.
  • Our mini satellite truck, parked in the lot of the only open gas station in Stuart, where dozens of cars were lined up waiting up to two hours for fuel. That's producer Gary Gastelu on the right, and cameraman Joel Fagan on the left.
  • The gas station tanks start to run dry as another storm approaches.
  • At the emergency operations center, a temporary set-up in a shopping center parking lot in Stuart, FL. Joel gets video of police officers who help pass out MRE'S (military meals-ready-to-eat)to hurricane victims.
  • The National Guard helps distribute cases of water and bags of ice. More than 4,000 cars drove through in one day.
  • Cameraman Joel Fagan and I strike a pose.
  • A gorgeous Florida sunset, shot from the backseat of our car, heading south to Miami after a wet and busy five days of storm coverage.
