Stop the presses! Hillary Clinton is going to be more spontaneous and have more fun in the campaign. We know this because her team handed the scoop to The New York Times.
In other words, the spontaneity is planned and rehearsed. And the fun surely will be tested on a focus group.
Imagine the sign-off meeting: OK, team, we’re going with Pantsuit Joke #2 because it got 14 percent more laughs than #1. The backup plan is to make fun of Donald Trump’s hair — 11 people smiled at that. Quick, somebody tell the Times.
Hillary Clinton’s been in public life for nearly 25 years, and voters know exactly who she is.
Poor, pathetic Hillary, she’s fallen and she can’t get up.
It’s not for lack of trying. If Theodore White were alive and still doing his “Making of the President” series, the chapters on Hillary could be called the remaking of a candidate. He could do a whole series on her do-overs, with the latest one titled, “More Humor, More Heart.”
The Madonna of politics keeps trying to reinvent herself, but she can’t run fast enough or far enough. Wherever she goes, there she is!
