My worst nightmares about the United States government have come true with the still unfolding Benghazi scandal. And that is chilling.

The consistent pattern of lying demonstrated by members of the Obama administration should be troubling to any American. Never has this been more obvious than on the subject of Benghazi.

Earlier this week, the conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch obtained and released over 1,000 documents pertaining to Benghazi as part of a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit. Included in these documents was a Sept. 14, 2012, email from Ben Rhodes, an assistant to the president and deputy national security adviser for strategic communications.

Rhodes’ email referenced an upcoming call to U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice the next afternoon to prepare her for appearances on all five Sunday news talk shows. The email specifically drew attention to an anti-Islamic video that was causing protests in other areas, without distinguishing it from the Benghazi attack.

In the email from Rhodes there were two stated goals:

More On This...

“To underscore that these protests are rooted in an Internet video, and not a broader failure of policy.”

“To reinforce the President and Administration’s strength and steadiness in dealing with difficult challenges.”

Instead of acknowledging their failed policy as the root cause of the terrorist attack in Benghazi that caused the deaths of four brave Americans, the Obama administration shows great strength and steadiness as they continue to lie.

I feel that the broader question here is who gave the orders to promote the video? It strains human credibility that a staff member such as Ben Rhodes could be advising a senior staff member such as Susan Rice to go on five Sunday shows and be paid, at taxpayer expense, to lie to the American people. Jay Carney, Victoria Nuland and other members of the Obama administration were also told, in essence, to lie. Why? Because they were following orders.

It is beyond ghoulish that President Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Vice President Joe Biden, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and Ambassador Rice could stand beside the caskets of my nephew Sean Smith, Ambassador Christopher Stevens, Glenn Doherty and Tyrone Woods in 2012 and tell grieving family members that they were going to get the guy who made this awful video.

How about getting the actual murderers?

As a blues musician, I am blessed to have many friends and fans via social media all over the world. After Sept. 11, 2012, it was discovered by some of these individuals, some residing in the Middle East, that I had lost a family member in the attack. I was advised by some of my Middle East friends not to believe my president when he blamed the video. I agreed. A protest and a video cannot explain a well-coordinated paramilitary attack.

Meanwhile, fast forward to 2014. Our president and his staff have continued to lie and cover up about the Benghazi attack.

The recent revelations about the Sept. 14, 2012, email are not a huge surprise to me. I already felt this to be true on a visceral basis.

The proof of a cross-agency, cooperative cover-up about Benghazi is the best argument for a Joint Select Committee investigation into what really happened on Sept. 12, 2012. It is also a real explanation for why five Benghazi committees have not been totally successful in their investigative efforts.

The truth is difficult to find when dealing with paid serial liars. Especially when they cover up, shut up, and move up.
