Should the issue of gay marriage be decided by voters?

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who wants voters to decide whether to allow gay marriage in his state, is defending his comment that civil rights activists "would have been happy with a referendum on civil rights rather than fighting and dying in the streets of the South." Civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis fired back, saying: "If it had been put to a referendum, we would have never ever won." Who do you think should decide the issue of gay marriage?
