Should a governor have the power to pardon prisoners?

A judge has temporarily blocked more than 200 pardons issued by then-Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour that would have freed, among others, many convicted rapists, murderers and child sex criminals. If the courts are responsible for sentencing people convicted of violent crimes, should governors have the power to pardon them?
